yes but I can think of no reason why you would want one instead of a 2.0..!

i'm having a problem with my netgear adapter, googled for help , and people are saying either get a usb 1.1 port (as the 2.0 is too quick)
or get a different wireless adapter

can you not alter your usb speed via bios?

i,m pretty sure i can do it on my mobo

re the speed, afaik it dosent matter what speed the usb stuff is, it will only send data to the device, at a speed it can handle.

ie a 2.0 device on a 1.0 hub, will only get data at 1.0

a 1.0 device on a 2.0 hub, will only get data at 1.0

USB2 is backward compatible to 1.1 so there should be no 'speed' issue, I think you are onto a red herring re. above. As said whatever the max speed of the device u are connecting, the usb hub will maintain at the same speed.

I've had issues with the earlier versions of those netgear adapters before. They basically overheat and fail or cause issues (mostly disconnecting from your wireless net) You need to get hold of a V2 or above one off Ebay. I did and it hasn't failed or behaved strangely since.

what mobo do you have (mobo=motherboard)

1) start your pc, hold del or whatever key is says to access bios setup

2) go through each menu carefully, untill you find options relating to USB

3) write down the options, and post them here, once we know what you have, it makes things easier

4) alternitivly, consider either an ethernet router/ wireless adaptor or a pci wireless card

forgot to add....is your pc overclocked? if you mess round with timings, that will have an effect on usb settings (not sure if its still the same these days, but it used to be an isssue)

sounds like thats your real issue...

ditch it, sorry to say, it sounds like your going down the spend money to shore up a failing bit of kit.

a new pci wireless card from pcworld is only £20

Now this is getting confusing..

youve bought a new pc, and have wireless issues with a addon dongle.

you have been advised to ditch it, and replace it with something that works

yet you now want to stick with a potentially duff bit of kit, throw money at it and now try to buy something totally pointless, that wont solve the problem

this is obviously a wind up.

your on your own now

Surely for the cost of the usb port, you can buy a better wireless dongle (or get a card, better still).

the dongle was in a bundle (so its kinda free-ish)
however its been 2 hours and it hasn't crashed yet,

i am having it hanging over the fan vent on the desktop case, its cooler now.

if it does crash i'm gonna get a pci card, and sell the crap thing on ebay...

but i'm having my fingers crossed to see how it goes
