Default Xbox Live and AOL

Brother in law has just got a xbox and is trying to connect LIVE. He uses AOL broadband with the regular broadband modem that they supply. He therefore has to unplug his computer in order to connect the Xbox. When he runs the tests it confirms that its wired and also the IP but the DNS fails, any ideas would be gratefull. Is it likely to be a setting on the xbox that needs changing or the modem??

No need to unplug the PC from the router when using live on Xbox.

I have a netgear dg834xx as supplied by aol, and use it to connect to live at the same time as the pc is in use...

check that the xbox has the same wep code (you are using security as the router needs...

if all else fails, reset the network settings back to default, on the x box, and then remove the wep or whatever security password you are using on the router.

Try and connect to live.... if it works, all is well... all you need to do is then set up your wep or other security access password for the router, and then enter it into the xbox when it says failed (edit settings)

this will give you your secure wireless access.

Now depending on :

The runes.

The alignment of the planets.

whether you have a good NG router.

your pc has god knows what set up,

you may or may not be able to media stream from your pc to your xbox...

I cant stream using a NG router, but others on here can

its a bit hit and miss on that area though

if he has a modem, then he will need to ethernet to his pc and run it via the pc,

still not the best method though.

look on the fleabay for a router (adsl type)

should cost about £20 for a S/h one

It is a modem, although he has used this way in the past when he used to play online with his PS2. I thought he could just plug his ethernet cable into the back and away he goes.
