All this messing with PCs latey has given me the building bug... wrong choice of words there..

anyway... piece by piece.. today I ordered my Case!!

I will post step by step how I decided on the parts and then pictures of it going together for anyone interested in building a PC !!

Newbies welcome !

Pic #1 - wtf is SLI ready about a case???

Lol as soon as I start speccing a new build its game over. Have to buy it all in one go as to impatient to buy piece by piece.

I was tempted in new year but a new BFG OC2 8800GT has given my 3 yr old pc a new lease of life in BF2142 and handles Crysis ok. Besides looks like Intel have decided to hold off on releasing their 45nm cpu's til March now as AMDs offerings are offering no competition at all.

Your going to have to be careful with that fan, its massive Thinking about the airflow in the case you will most probably want that set as an intake, otherwise it will compete for the air that your cpu and gpu need.

I've seen that happen before. The CPU fan and PSU fans suddenly spinning up and temps increasing when too much air is sucked out of the case before it arrives to those important components.

i've just done a new build using the antec 900 case.i've since found out that its a bit tight for the liquid cooling system i was going to but in it.so wont be bothering now

so you have 9 squillion leds

couple of questions......

how are these leds going to be powered??

Isnt all the leads for the leds going to provide another source of RF or spaghetti to gather dust / generate heat?

what advantage do 9 squillion leds offer? more speed? better processing power

Jesus lay off the guy lol. I also prefer the minimalistic / subtle look but Im not gonna rip the **** outta some chap posting on here about his new build just cos it has a load of leds on it.

Anyway unless Im missing something where are all these LEDs? All I can see is a blue glow from inside the case in the pics on the link. Inside of my case glows blue due to my PSU light. I doubt very much such lighting requires much additional cabling.

Unfortunatly led,s on mobo's and other items of equipment seem to be de rigeur at the mo, so he we/ dont have an option.....

if thats what he has then so be it.....

i was only drawing attention to some possible why's and whats later on when the psu dies, or performace is down due to other issues

Looked like a proper dig to me

I have a couple of LED fans and a cold cathod tube - personally I am very pleased with the look of my PC.

and a 1000w PSU to power the lot, so power isnt an issue

I was just messing around with a spec as its lunch time and Im bored. Quite like the Coolermaster Cosmos case. Currently have a Cavalier 2 (might be 3) and its very well built albeit a bit on the small side. Would like something a bit bigger as Id be tempted to go watercooled with one of those Swiftech compact kits for £80. Gotta be done as every man and their dog seems to be able clock their Q6600 to 3.6 under water.

The fans have the LEDs built in.. one power connection powers ALL the fans in the case.. The fans.. I'm guessing you dont know this.. are used to cool the bits down inside the PC !!

I didnt buy the case for the Colourful fans... I bought it for the great reviews, excellent size and the ability to add a **** load of devices !!

Anyway.. I've decided against posting as I build.

As useful as it might have been for someone else whos not building them everyday to ready about any problems I have.. the flaming isn't worth the effort.

MIne are: AMD FX60 over clocked and cooled with massive zalman cooler, 3GB corsair extreme matched ram, 7800gtx overclocked and cooled to death, 250 Western digital raptor 10200rpm


Going to add 8800 ultra when 7800gtx dies!!!

WD dont make a 250gb raptor do they? I got a 74gb (newer 16mb cache version) for a dedicate gaming drive and must say Ive been well impressed and they really arent that noisy unless your someone who wants a pc that makes no sound at all.

There is no point in going to 4GB on a 32 bit system, you can put 4GB in but the most the O/S will see is just over 3GB depending on spec of graphics card due to 32bit addressing. If you have a low spec graphics system, you may see 3.5GB but thats the absolute max. The more graphics memory you have, the less you will have useable in your 32bit OS.

my rationale is none of these come without a price.......either in terms of power consumtion or performance...

i gave up spec chasing on pc's ages ago, it was costing a fortune..


my last build was a pre assembled bare bones system, cut down in terms of PCi slots, which in hindsight wasn't such a good idea

i hope it turns out well

People keeping saying this but 3/3.5gb is better than 2gb. And at the current prices of DDR2 memory its hardly costly to stick another 2gb in is it.

Ignore the naysayers and keep posting. I am interested to see what you come up with as haven't built a PC for nearly 2 years so will be good to see what goes into it and what the perfromance is like once it is built.

One thing, if you are putting a lot of peripherals in it will need plenty of cooling fans and if it is to be near you I would seriously consider getting some quiet ones from QuietPC or the likes as otherwise the noise can be intrusive.

My PC has 7 fans in it and I can hardly hear it.
