Laptop to TV setup
Hi folks
Bought the leads to connect the laptop to the TV but I cant get anything on the tv.
Gone through the options on the TV, such as the AV options.
When I look into the contol panel and check the settings in Display , there is no option to select the tv as the monitor.
Do I need some kind of software to run this??
Its just to watch video clips on Windows media player or the likes
Any help appreciated.
Laptop is a Dell Latitude, c540
Regards

Try rebooting the laptop with the TV turned on & plugged in AND have the lid of the laptop SHUT.
Failing that go into device manager and ADD a DEFAULT TELEVISION

Got display on the TV now but it only shows the screen saver, no folders or start menu.
I can change the screensave but no chance of playing the DVD's through it.
Any ideas?

if you can get display then that is great. You now need to go to your display settings and set it up.
On both my PC and Mac I have the option to send various things to the second 'window'. So I can work on my PC and have DVDs played on the second monitor.
You will need to coordinate your display monitor settings and the settings in your DVD or media player to tell them where you want the media to be player.
Or I think on both PC and Mac you can simply 'mirror' displays so they both show the same thing.

When you say "screensaver" what are you actually referring to? The backdrop behind your Icons, or the thing which comes on when your PC is idle?
If the former, then you need to tell your PC to eithor "clone" monitor 1, or set up Monitor 2 as your main display.
You may need to change your resolution down to 640x480 for it to show properly.
If the latter, not a clue.

I was going to say the same... or a scrolling desktop..
Best thing to do is to
Right click on your desktop
Go to Properties
Then Settings
You will see 2 boxes marked 1 and 2
1 is your monitor and 2 is your TV out
Go to TV and extend the windows desktop to it...
Reduce the res to the lowest setting.
If you have extended your desktop youll see just your wallpaper... Try playing a movie in a small player and dragging it across to the second screen??
If you have cloned your desktop you will see whats on your monitor..
Your on your own from here, its all down to your graphics card maker from there...
