Assassins Creed - review are in....
* Games Radar (100/100): "With its riveting story, beautiful visuals and surprisingly lifelike world, Assassin's Creed is an incredibly deep, enjoyable game that kept us addicted from beginning to bizarre end. It's bogged down by a lot of monotonous repetition and a fighting system that's sure to frustrate hack-and-slash fans, but neither of those things really diminished our enjoyment of the game, and both were far outweighed by the thrill of tearing around its enormous cities and carefully planning spectacular assassinations. It might not be for everyone, but playing through Assassin's Creed still stands as one of the most outstanding gaming experiences of 2007."
* Game Informer (95/100): "Assassin's Creed is the type of game that comes along only rarely – a title that innovates in so many areas it helps to set a new bar in various aspects of gameplay, storytelling, visuals, and controls. Simultaneously, it's an imperfect game in which the small flaws that mar its sheen are all the more noticeable because so much of the rest of the game shines so brightly. Deep, engaging, and surprising from beginning to end, Assassin's Creed's merits will be debated for a long time. However, as a brave attempt at delivering something unique and audacious, it excels."
* 1UP (70/100): "The fault of Creed's game structure isn't what you do -- gathering intel and conducting hits is actually pretty sweet. The repetition of these actions, however, is severely bitter. I kept waiting for a changeup of the objectives, and, well, that never happened. From the first hit to the last, you go through the same motions over and over and over...find the viewpoints, do the investigation missions, and take out the final target. It got to the point where I only did the minimum amount of investigation tasks needed to perform each kill. To make things worse, despite Ubisoft's faithfulness to history, the three cities of Acre, Damascus, and Jerusalem are practically the same."

It's hard to put the sheer size and brilliance of Assassin's Creed into words. It is an epic game that you have to experience for yourself. I will caution that the game is not for the impatient or the faint of heart. While you can plow through the main storyline in under 20 hours, to truly get every single last shred of gaming goodness, you will probably have to put in twice that number.

A masterpiece; a true gem. It deserves a place in any serious gamers’ collection. Even though it’s strictly a single player experience, it is a fresh and much needed title in this over crowed sea of average next-gen games.

Its stunning visual style, high concept story, and wildly open level design are like nothing else, even if too much repetition begins to frustrate in the later hours. It’s a game people will still be talking about five years from now.

The first half of Assassin’s Creed is a truly clairvoyant experience. You’ve never played anything like it. The sagacious story, incalculable crowd interaction, and unprecedented freedom to traverse the environment how you choose are landmark moments. Over time, repetition rears its ugly head, combat becomes a necessary routine, and dimwitted foes ****** you out of the third crusade and remind you that you’re playing a game.

It attempts a lot of ambitious things and it almost succeeds at every one. But it's apparent that these grandiose ideas may have been a little too much to master the first go-round. But hey, at least the groundwork is laid for a killer sequel -- right, Ubisoft?
Assassin's Creed (xbox360: 2007): Reviews
Not sure myself how repetitive it will get, gonna try it on rental.

In a long interview with Gamersyde, the lovely Jade Raymond answers a ton of burning questions, with one of them being about a possible pre-release demo. Due to the immense world and non-linearity featured in the game, Jade breaks the news that the idea of a demo for Assassin’s Creed was tossed around early in the development cycle but, unfortunately, ended up being dumped into the bin.

Games publications are a mixed bag - I reckon most of them get bribed by the publisher to add some extra marks
Proofs in the pudding - and as I don't own a next-gen console, I'll look forward to hearing from you guys on here.

I saw it running for the first time on a mate's 360. He absolutely loved it to bits, but is fairly new to gaming.
Personally. I thought it was ok - the AI was a mixed bag, but I loved the climbing aspect a la Prince of Persia. Some love landscapes when you're at the top of the towers.
As for it being repetitive, I was only there 20 mins and I got bored watching it! Hopefully there's plenty to see and do.

Just watched the SD & HD versions on the lappy, will do a further comparison on the crt later today
360, very rich in colour / detail
p3 looks washed out - lack of resolution, however lots of lighting effects that are either to enhance or to make up for the lack of detail
at the mo its akin to a lcd vs plasma picture
360 lcd type picture
P3 plasma type picture
on balance at the mo 360 for me

It's ok for the first mission, but then you realise that the game is just the same thing over and over again. Soon changes from an enjoyable romp into a repetitive slog. Get mission, find intelligence by evesdropping etc, kill a few people, repeat. Even the various cities all look the same when you are inside them. It's just all a bit mindless (and boring)...

It has similarities, but the moves are much easier than Tomb raider. Basically you just hold down a button, and it does it all for you. No lining up with ledges and hoping you manage to jump at the right moment. It's all too easy

How were your assassinations? Graceful and well plannd out, or you being pushed around by 4000guards wildly thrashing your sword about in the general direction of the target?
