Question Connect to 2 networks

Does anyone know how I could achieve this?

Scenario is my work lappy is setup to connect to the office network, so workgroup/domain etc is for office setup.

But I would like to connect to my home network with the lappy to, without upsetting the office settings. I use a netgear router at home.

I can of course get net access with the lappy through my home connection, just don't know how I can join my home network as well, without changing the workgroup etc, which then means I can't rejoin the office network without a server admin account n pass.

Depends how much is setup on the lappy... I would have thought checking for a static IP and removing a procy would be a good start !

He already said internet isn't a problem so I doubt a proxy is used, same goes for static IP, net is working which would lead me to believe both networks are DHCP

group policies may affect this from working however

Ah sussed it, I thought something additional was needed. So if I put the ip address in i.e \\192.168.0.2 then I can see the shares on my home network.

You can fix the MAC > IP binding's on the netgear which I would do, then the computers always have the same IP every time

I was at first going to say to take simple file sharing off but the guide said to enable it

The thing is, even if I fix the IPs I still can't connect via machine name. I have to use the IP, don't know why, but my main PC is always the same IP so it doesn't matter much. Thx for the pointers Mike.

which has me thinking if you enabled Netbios over TCP/IP.......

Chapter 11 - NetBIOS over TCP/IP

that would ***** up the domain setup im guessing though so prob best leave alone

i would of just setup another profile, so when your laptop boots, you can choose between work or home. Thats what we do at the nhs, we setup a roaming profile and a docked profile for when they are in the office.
