This is doing my head in! I need to do as the title says - take email and contacts from Outlook 2003 and read them into Outlook 2000. Googling this and there are several suggestions, none of which I've found to work. I've also tried a couple of Outlook backup type solutions which also don't work.

So, can anyone point me in the right direction? Not to MS docs. that say 'do it this way' but to ways that have actually worked????

Yep. And I know there are differences in the format between 2000 and 2003. Just not been able to get any of the workarounds to work ....

At least one of the 'backup' solutions I tried used it's own format.
So anything freeware/shareware is good. Not going to pay.

It does. I was following instructions in a forum somewhere but they were somewhat wrong. Finally found the MS version at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...190371033.aspx

Works a treat - except that I had to go back and export Contacts seperately - but into the same O2000 pst file.

Hope it helps someone else as the solution is not that obvious ......
