ok downloaded this program and run it-it found what i think is the right files so i clicked to restore them which it did-but when i then click on them to open them to view them-it just says no preview available or wrong file format-regardless of what pic viewer i use.
anymore help please?

You could try Recuva - it's free. It will search through to find recently deleted files and see whether they can be recovered.

Recuva makes an estimate of the chance and quality of the recovered file - what did it say? Have you tried just renaming the file to .bmp or .jpg just to see if it will open?

I just tried that program. By god its fast at searching a partition. I've never seen a recovery program work so quickly
I'm not sure if its better than what I have already, but I am certainly going to try it.

1) Hmmm, just did a test. Copied a file called "rcsetup.exe" from partition c: to d:
Once it was on partition d:, I deleted it, then emptied the recycle bin. After that I used the program to try and find it....it failed Not so good atm
2) Just did another test. Created a file on my second partition called test. Deleted it, emptied recycle bin and then tried to find it. No joy. Most strange as this program finds loads of old stuff. Just nothing new that has been deleted that I may actually need
