Default How many people here run Windows Server x64

As title

How many of you in IT are running Windows 2003 x64 bit edition, and if so on what hardware ?

If you are running it, is there much improvement over the x32 bit edition

Cheers

We considered it for our DB servers on HP dual dual-core Opteron hardware last year. Our benchmarks then showed no real advantage so we stuck with x32.

For reasons best known to themselves one of my customers is running w2k3 x64 on 7 out 8 HS21 blades. The only one that needs it is the e2k7 box and at a stretch the SQL box. Whether they need e2k7 at all is a mute point. And SQL is not under much strain at all, running a BES DB and a couple of DBs for Altiris.

Performance-wise they seem to run ok (the only one with more than 4GB RAM is the ESX blade) but no more ok than the blade running x86 IMO.

However, it's their dime

I've got one x64 server and that's only because Exchange 2007 demands it. That's on a DL380 G5. Not benchmarked it properly TBH.

Thanks for the replies

One of the reasons for asking is that we are looking at whether it is better to host an Exchange 2007 server or stay with Exchange 2003 for the time being

From a sys admin POV, the move to Exchange 2007 is, erm, interesting! 2000 to 2003 wasn't too bad - System Manager was quite similar. 2007 though.... ouch!

My Ex2007 box is living with our Ex2003 server happily now, though I once SP1 for 2007 ships (and provides Public Folder management from the GUI), I will carry on towards de-commissioing the 2003 box.
