Hi,
When i put my pci usb card in the puter and try to open a program i get this prog has performed an illegal operation etc,the details are explorer caused a general protection fault in module cm 8330.DRV at0006:0000196c bla bla bla does any one know what this means.
Also if i put the card in after a format its ok but i cannot get any sound as it asks me to free up an interupt request and it asks me to disable my usb to allow the sound to load.
Pc 100 motherboard on board sound and graf 300 processor 128 ram,the system is absolutely fine as i only do internet, printing and a few office bits so dont want to upgrade. i need the usb for the scanner.
Thanks Paul

ok.. this could be a little tricky...
what OS are you running?
go into device manager and see if you can move the sound card or the usb card to a different interupt via "device manager" -> Select device (usb card) -> right click -> properties -> resources then see if you can allocate the irq yourself.

Try this thread I found on the Goggle newsgroup search engine.
> My guess is that your computer has a sound card or integrated sound chip by C-Media, Inc., based on the CMI-8330 chip set. Some sort of error is being caused by the particular driver you have loaded for this. It may be that the same driver doesn't work for 98 and 98 SE, or that the driver has become damaged somehow. But that would seem to be the source of the error message. The C-Media site for drivers for their OEM sound cards and motherboards is http://www.cmedia.com.tw/e_frames.htm.
Along with any other checking you want to do on this, I would run (from a Run box) the program SFC.EXE, and let it check your system for damaged or wrongly overwritten Windows files, and replace them according to common sense.
