ISP true info or bulls*it
Been battling with my ISP for some time now to obtain the connection speed i signed up for (2mb) my line is 3.5mb capable, and i used to have a 2mb service from my last ISP
Ive had all the usual "your too far from the exchange" crap, and the "its BT,s problem not ours" bull
Finally they have admitted that the fault is there end, but now there saying they.ll bump me to ADSL2? and that will improve things, but if the server at the exchange is full, i will get whatever speed is a available (could be 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2.0,2.5 3.0 or 3.5) and after a period of settling, that will be the best speed i,m going to get.. (and thats the end of the matter)?? (so they say )
now ive checked daily and my router always reports a downstream connection of 1152kbs
If i check the stats for my area, it always reports every other ISP giving around 3.5MB downstream.
Are they fobbing me off, or is this correct. if so i,m well p*ssed of and may just walk out of sheer frustration
And to cap it all there ringing back on monday to offer me a better deal (ha dont make me laugh)

How do you know your line is 3.5Mb capable if you only had 2Mb from your last ISP ? Distance from the exchange isn't the only factor, the quality of the line and your internal wiring can have a significant impact upon performance.
What is the line attenuation to the exchange ? What is the signal to noise ratio ? Are you plugged into the master socket ? Are your microfilters okay ?
Just because everyone else in your area is okay doesn't mean that the problem is due to your ISP.
This website has lots of info for adsl trouble shooting.
