Project Gotham Racing 5
News: Bizarre: Deserts, ATVs for PGR 5 - ComputerAndVideoGames.com
Obviously Gotham 4’s about to come out and we’re really happy with it, but behind the scenes we’ve already started ripping our game to pieces. We know where we failed in certain areas; for instance we wanted more trackside damage, more particles and smoke effects, a bigger damage system - and all of these things are being stripped out in a post-mortem.
Next time it’s more on the detail. That’s what we think; we think the devil’s in the detail. Anyone can make a good looking game but the top games blow you away by being super-realistic, adding things that you didn’t expect and surprising you.
Up until now, the series has held tight to the streets of big cities like Tokyo and London. With the fifth entry that may as well change:I personally believe there’s a lot we can do by taking our vehicles we’ve already got and putting them into different, more interesting environments. It doesn’t always mean outside of the city, it just means getting lets say more elevation - somewhere we can finally do big jumps.
That’s what we’re looking for in the next game; going to deserts - that kind of stuff. Seeing how they affect the gameplay, see if we can get Kudos working their as well.
For those who have welcomed the latest addition of racing bikes to the impressive roster of cars, the lead designer has even more exhilarating vehicles in mind for PGR 5: We could bring cruisers in, we could bring ATV-type bikes in. None of these are definite, but there’s are whole world of things for us to do.
Bear in mind that Project Gotham Racing 5 hasn’t been officially confirmed, as only the developer’s plans for the future of the franchise have been revealed. Until official word from publisher Microsoft, sit back and rest in comfort knowing that just in a few weeks time you’ll be able to get hold of Bizarre’s latest PGR offering.

I would imagine that a huge amount of ideas came out of their brainstorming for PGR3/4. Putting in everything would mean taking much, much longer to develop the game with forever moving deadlines (sound familiar ? ) plus it would have been too much to add in one go. There's more life in the current format with environmental tweaks and a single added vehicle type which will make PGR4 great. Just hope PGR5 doesn't depart too much from what PGR is all about by adding too many vehicle types; I don't think it did the Colin McRae series any favours.
Good to see that they are forward thinking and don't rest on their laurels.
