Moving emails etc from Outlook Express to new PC?
Finally got a new PC. Set up with Office, my docs, bookmarks etc which were transferred over by cross-wiring the HDD to the new one (even the USB ports had died on the old one). The old one now sulks in a corner. But I'd like all the data from my Outlook Express, like all the emails in the inbox, perhaps the sent ones, and the address book.
The friend who did all the installing said it was either difficult or impossible to transfer these to the new PC.
True or False? If false, how would I do it?
Many thanks
Brendan

yes you can do it .
if you want to get the OE mail into Outllok on your new pc, then its easy.
on the old PC, go to Import/outlook on the file menu. it will export it to the outlook format (.pst format). simply take this across to the new pc and import.
if you want to keep the outlook express format, then a bit harder.
You need to locate the messages folder
Cocuments and Settings\{User}\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
copy that folder and place it in the same place on the new PC.

Guys, to be clearer - it's outlook express on both PCs. He said outlook would be easy, but for some reason outlook express is more difficult.
I'll have a look at swiss's solution

No no - I have office and the choice of outlook, but all I want is an email prog, not a sodding great prog to manage an entire sales force So I have access to outlook - should I rephrase that, I have the possibility of outlook - but don't want it.

I use Thunderbird as my mail program.
Personally, I would install Thunderbird and a program called MozBackup.
1. Install and run Thunderbird on old PC - it will inport ALL your lookout Express settings and mail
2. Install and run Mozbackup. Make a backup of all you Thunderbird settings and e-mail.
3. On new PC, installed Thunderbird and Mozbackup
4. Restore backup file from old PC to new PC.
IMO, Thunderbird is so much better at everything than Outlook Express - and with better security. My e-mail folder is HUGE and it handles it with ease.
