NAT settings on router?
Anyone have any ideas how to sort my netgear router so it stops conflicting with other peoples connections on xbox live?
I can't even private chat with my friend anymore let alone join a room that he's in. I find it impossible to join loads of rooms on forza 2 and if i do manage to get in one the people in there can never get their friends in!
I worked through some instructions from port forwarding to set up a static ip address.
Any ideas what I need to do?
Thanks
Steve

Don't know if i have the same problem, but according to my 360 / live info it says my console is hidden or is low ?? it apparently is because its not an Xbox live uber compatible router (netgear too)
any know what it means, and how can i / we make them compatible

NAT (Network Address Translation) status has one of 3 settings your xbox will get from your router, Open (good), Moderate (no good) or Strict (even worse).
here's an MS explanation
Xbox 360: Troubleshooting NAT status issues
you'll find they suggest a compatable router
see if your router will allow putting your xbox in the DMZ (De-Milliterized Zone), this gives it the routers outward IP address and kind of removes the NAT issue.
It's also worth note that the recent maintenance caused lots of connection issues over the last couple of days since Tuesday morning

Varies from router to router but the general status is you specify an IP address on your local network i.e. 192.168.0.10 then all unsolicited packets get forwarded to the computer on your network that has that IP address.
DMZ is a bit overkill for the xbox but as above it's a good test to get it working and then go from there
The public IP is still given to the router though not the internal machine so the xbox still has to go thorugh the nat, the difference being the standard NAT protection (denying incoming packets unless you requested them) doesnt apply to a machine in the DMZ, thats on home routers anyways, enterprise networks its a bit different

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
guide for port forwarding there
XBOX 360 needs 3 ports open to work correctly
TCP 3074
UDP 3074
UDP 88
if your router has UPnP enabled that may sort the issue.
Unless its their end of course
