Default wireless question

just bought a new pc(vista) got it linked to the old pc(xp) it will for example play a music file off the old pc but it won't let me download it onto the new pc. it comes up with you need special permissions to perform this action, any idea's?

are u admin or just a guest in ur laptop sign in settings?

both pc's are desktops and both admin

Try turning 'user access control' off in control panel/user accounts

Vista is a nightmare for networking, there are so many restrictions and "helpful" extras.

To be honest I'd just use a shared folder and leave it at that !

I've not found networking in Vista to be a nightmare at all. All you need to do is look at the properties for the shared folder, and make sure you have write permissions for "everyone", not just the administrator of the computer (it quite rightly counts the admin accounts of two difference machines as two different users). I think if you right click on the folder, properties, share, select "everyone" in the list, and change the permissions to "contributer" or "co-owner"...

For the less technical user.. like myself. Its so much more complicated than XP.. maybe I'm missing something but ... IT made me cry
