'plug-in' modchip for last version of Playstation(1)
#1
Anyone out there tell me this:
My brother's got the very last revision of the Playstation 1 - eg. not a PSOne, but the original shape one.
Anyone know if there's any form of modchip for it that doesn't need wiring in - eg. a plugin or boot disk kind ?

Depends what model it is !
If it has an expansion slot on the back i may have a chip cartridge to fit it i used to sell them and i have a few left
This will allow you to play backups with a simple disc swap
Thanks

Gazza, thanks for the offer but you're too far away. I can get it sorted locally, although I wanted to avoid opening it up.
By the way, when a PS1 starts to ignore CDRs and originals when you turn the machine on and skips to the memory card screen, instead of booting the game, whats the usual cause and can it be repaired easily ?

From what you said its a 9000 model
try a new laser in psx/or borrow one from a mate to see if its that.
One problem i had was similar to yours, but sometimes the game would play at half speed, sometimes it would play at twice the speed!!!!(toca2 at twice speed=hairy).i replaced the laser to no avail.but i fiddled with the connection on the back of psx(where scart plugs in/or av lead)and found if i really bent it upwards or downwards the game would play at standard speed!
In the end i put my old laser back in,took the modchip out and phoned sony, who replaced it with the same model but refurbished for £30!!the laser cost me nearly that!!
I think you can buy boot disks for psx,but probably cheaper getting it chipped.it's so easy stripping down a psx and depending what chip you go for only 4 or 5 wires to solder.
Any more info mail me.
Duncan.
