Question Mac Gurus - MacBook Pro battery issue.....

Morning Guys

Having a problem with my MBP battery. The machine is just over 12months old (and has been used everyday on both psu and battery power)

I've noticed recently that the battery life is dire. I will leave the maglock psu connected to charge it to full, remove the psu, and the battery goes down to about 1hr 20 mins.

Then after about 20 mins, the MBP just shuts down (sleep).

However, even by checking the battery leds (by pressing the button on the battery), they say at worst 4 out of five leds are still lit.

I've reset the PMU (by shutting down, removing the battery, and pressing the power button for 5 secs, then replacing the battery and starting up)

Still no joy.

I've also checked to see if I've got the latest battery update (V1.2), all installed.

The only thing I can think of is that the battery is FUBAR'd after a maglock connector started to come away from the powerlead (all the sheilding came away).

This PSU has now been replaced.......

Could a faulty PSU have been overcharging or damaging the battery?

Any thoughts, as the machine is now bordering on unusable on battery power. Might have to look at a new battery off Ebay....

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Try the steps mentioned here and see if they help. I know it's not specifically related to the issue, but it's worth a shot.

If possible try another battery, might require going to the nearest Apple store/reseller and asking them if you can swap the battery and wait around and see if the problem happens.

If it does it with another battery then it's probably going to be something screwy with the machine itself, possibly the logic board. If it's under warranrty, get Apple to replace it.

Looks like a FUBAR'd battery. My local Apple reseller is sending me a replacement battery to try, and take it from there. Thankfully, I buy a lot of kit from them, so the support is rather good

Thanks for the infor Markus - meant to PM you too (to say "ta"), but lost track of time!

Thanks Matt - tried that first of all

The battery was fubar'd. New one works a treat and has just come of being calibrated

Fair play to AT Computers in Tewksbury.
