New ATI card - recommendations?
Hi all
After a new gfx card to replace my ageing X1650 512mb PCI-E. Going to get a nice 22" monitor also see need a better res.
Ideally around the 100-140 mark, what are people buying?

Something like this falls into your category though personally I prefer NVidia

If it has to be that price range, then the X1950Pro is your best bang for buck, but I would strongly suggest you squeeze your budget a little and get a nVidia 8800 GTS 320. Way, WAY better performance, and can be had for around the £170 mark.

ATi crossfire boards, just like nVidia nForce boards will run their competitors cards very well. You just wont be able to run 2 of them linked that's all.
Check out the net for some reviews, there have been reviews where 2 x x1950 in Crossfire were pitted against 1 8800 GTS and the GTS was faster.

Nice one!! Did you get it yet? Have you installed it?
If not, remember to uninstall the ATi stuff then use DriverCleaner or Guru3d's DriverSweeper to remove all the leftovers, otherwise you may have a few issues.
Other than that, prepare for a serious LEAP in performance!!

Yup turned up on Saturday. One big card i have to say, had to move two of my hdds to fit it
On Vista 64 bit so figured vista would sort it out, uninstalled the ATI card and stuck the new one in. Loaded Nvidia drivers and all works perfectly. Noticed last night i still had the ATI manager software so uninstalled that too ooops!
Got a 22" widescreen monitor also and played Cod2 multiplayer sat night, really nice and smooth on 1650 res, plenty of affects that I'd not seen before like snow
