Free Retrofit for Wireless Racing Wheel

As a precautionary measure, Microsoft Corporation is voluntarily providing its customers with a free retrofit to the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. The Wheels were manufactured during 2006 - 2007. A component in the Wheel chassis may in rare cases overheat and release smoke when the AC-DC power supply is used to energize the Wheel.
There have been no reported incidences of fire, personal injury or property damage due to the Wheel malfunction. Despite no known safety incidents, we are advising our customers about this because of our strong commitment to ensuring that our products are safe and perform to our design specifications.

Owners of the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel should print out the retrofit form or call Microsoft at 1-800-4my-Xbox to register to receive the retrofit and protect against the potential hazard described above. Instructions will be provided with the retrofit. We are notifying and will be coordinating our response activities with the relevant regulatory agencies such as the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. This may impact delivery dates.
Owners of the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel should stop using the AC-DC power supply until they have obtained their retrofit. Owners may continue to operate the Wheel using battery power. While operating in battery mode, the force feedback feature will not be available. Once retrofitted, owners may run the Wheel using AC power and reactivate this feature.

I have to laugh at the way the say it's free all the time !

it's a product re-call and they have the cheek to call it free.

 

Err... so what exactly are they going to do? am I going to have to fit something myself or take the wheel to be 'retro fitted' with this?

I had a huge empty box turn up by DHL today with instructions to package up and return my wireless wheel. WTF?

 

I sent off the form after the original post so its been a while ! A search on the Xbox.com forums shows that this appears to be how they are handling it. Basically, you'll need to return the wheel for replacement innards . . . probably get it back in about 3 months time

Screw that, I'm going to see if I can get it returned for a refund.

 

I was only thinking yesterday I hadn't had a new PSU yet. Not heard anything either but it did take me a month or more to apply. Guess I'm further down the queue

 

I only got round to posting my letter yesterday, so I guess I'm even further down the queue. If they want the whole thing back, I think I'll just ignore it (I don't use it much anyway)...

 

I will ignore it as well I think as mine is on the list of serial numbers.

Hardly use it, but its the whole principal of sending it off for 4 weeks that bugs me - why cant modern manufacturers get things right before selling them??

 

But it's Microsoft, they must develop their hardware with the same techniques they use to develop software

I'm a bad lad and still use my wheel for Forza, house still not burned down and I won't be sending it back

 

I got my box yesterday, it's got a great big hole in the top (through the label) and yellow tape saying re-packagaged by DHL I'm guessing this is what it is as it says from European Repair Centre. There is no paper work inside, no instructions, no phone number to call. I guess that was in the box before DHL decided to destroy it!

 

Contary to populer belief DHL do not go about destroying packages

99 times out of 100 it is down to shat packaging by the sender

 

i have been waiting 3 weeks for a delivery, because DHL "lost" my package somewhere in london

constant ringing up the printers (its for 1000 flyers i need before xmas) and them chasing up DHL

total nightmare to be honest!!
