Question

My PC seems to be having a problem with its graphics card. I first noticed it in MS Flight Sim 2000 after upgrading to Windows 2000 from win 98. The graphics in Flight sim seemed much slower and blockier than before. Now that I've upgraded to Flight Sim 2002 it's telling me it cant use the display hardware acceleration and starts up in some sort of safe mode. According to the pc's display settings everything is working ok. The card is an NVidia Riva TNT with 16mb of memory - when I upgraded to win 2000 I picked up the latest version of the driver for win 2000. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong or even how I could check the graphics card is working or not.

Regards

Kevin.

Check to see your graphics card meets the requirements of the game - the card you mention is getting a little long in the tooth now. You MAY need to upgrade to one of the GeForce range, which are available from £65 to £350.

Windows 2000 is more 'memory hungry' than Win98 so anything that runs 100% on Win98 may run 95% or less on Win2000. If your PC is fast, you'll not notice, but if your running say Pentium II 350, 64MB Ram, you WILL notice a difference.

Also, try running DXDIAG, a diagnostic tool for DirectX (look on your game cd for it) - this wil check everything is running happily in your system.

Thanks folks.

Using the directx diagnostic tool it tells me the direct 3d acceleration isn't available but it lets me run the test direct 3d and it passes the test. The only directx feature available is the directdraw acceleration. Is it this lack of 3d acceleration thats giving me grief - should this be enabled given the graphics card I have.

Blowdog - I've no idea what you're on about !!

Wink

thats alright kevin, none of us know wot BD's on about most of the time either !

even now he's no longer muppet moderator

go check out the Nvidia web site.

they do there own Reference drivers for their graphics cards.

they call them detonator.

i run them for my 32mb Ge Force Pro rather than specific Creative Labs ones.

seem very reliable.

try :

www.nvidia.co.uk
