Default Virus affecting startup ?

Since last weekend my pc has had problems starting up. When I first switch it on it beeps a few times and then does nothing. I have to keep turning it on/off about 3-4 times until it starts up.

I thought the pc was about to die or something but i've spoke to a few people tonight who are all suffering the same problem, apparently there is a virus going round that causes this problem, anyone know anything about it ?

I've run my anti-virus and 2 online scanners which have come up as clean

How long have you had the PC? The CMOS battery could be on it's last legs. That's the 1st thing I would check.

What exactly are the beeps?

Short, long, two tone, cycling, one off?

That is the computers way of telling you something is wrong at a hardware level.

What motherboard do you have?

as above usually motherboard reporting errors, quite possibly ram if it is a few years old. Possibility that the power supply is dodgy as wel, but more likely a motherboard component
