Metal Gear Solid 2 - totally brilliant.
Got it back in November, kept it under wraps til Christmas and have just had a chance to play it...
From the initial movie setting the scene, to playing the game, I just can't put it down.
I understand this TYPE of game is not everyone's cup of tea - but if you WERE a fan of the original you HAVE to get this.

-DV
PS: People who just played the original in its PC incarnation are missing out - this game must be played on the Sony platform.

I played the demo of this for ages (the one that came with zone (east?) enders.
Graphics etc were amazing, but i just found things a little slow (something i found with earlier versions) so am just thinking its not really for me.
I imagine the camperstrike fans would like it though hehe
Might have to get it and give it a try though
Got pro evo soccer over xmas, have to say i wasnt very impressed...
I hate the way that players that are supposedly under your control arent..
eg you do a through ball and even though the icon tells me im controlling the player he's still not moving where im telling him to go, also if you hoof one up the pitch, you run for the bouncing ball and for some reason just as you get to it, you slow down whereas the computer player trots straight past and takes it, have found many more versions of this as well, usually with ***** that are about to go out of play where the player your supposedly controlling just has to run after it and touch it before it goes out (and i dont mean when your sprinting).
all in all its ok, with the big exception of the commentary which has to be the worst ive ever heard (not meaning its quality but it just comes out with utter garbage!) for many moons, got so bad i turned it off. In fact i seem to remember the original iss64 on the n64 being somewhat better........
Wonder if 'this is football' is any better?

Pro Evo Soccer,
Commentary IS dire, but who listens to it anyway ? I normally turn it off.
There are shortcomings in the game but they're easily outweighed by all the other great touches. Previously ISS Pro 98 on PS1 was the best footy game on consoles, and Pro Evo is better than that, so right now in my opinion its the best footy game you're gonna get (maybe's until Kick Off 2002 is released by Acclaim in Feb!)
I've been playing Pro Evo in its Japanese form for the last year and its produced some epic games, 2 player, so stick with it! Its miles better than crappy FIFA.

PS: Anyone know if 'Everybody's Golf' is out or coming out on PS2 ? I love that game! Was playing it last night at a party - 3am job after the festivities had died down.

when I first saw MGS 1 I thought "not my type of game" but i went out got a copy and was hooked. MGS2 looks awesome. off to usa next week and mate out there has ps2 and MGS2 so think I might have a little play.
Agree with you Daz!!!!

Pro Evolution Soccer is totally cool (Apart from the commentary!)
I was playing in the pissin down rain one night and Chris James (The 'commentator') said "......The sun is beating down but the wind is howlin through the stadium....." Doh......
Nick..
P.S: Gonna give my DVD writer a blasting this weekend and see if it works!

Nick ,
If you are using the dvd writer to backup your games(so they dont get scratched!!

) my friend suggests using Verbatim disks.
he says other types burn at half the speed??and 1 in 3 tends to go wrong,or fails to load!

Looks good. I never completed MGS because at the very end they made you go up and down the same bit of warehouse so many times and I couldn't be bothered (all the way to the top, get the code key, oops drop it in the water, all the way to the bottom, get it, all the way to the top, put it in the thing, all the way to the bottom and back to a cold section, all the way back to the top and put it in, all the way back to the bottom and back to a hot section, all the way to the top, etc.....)
I hope this feeble and infuriating attempt to make the game last longer doesn't appear in MGS2.

The plot is pretty cool too. I'll not spoil it for anyone but there's cargo tankers to explore, and off-shore oil refinery's to *defuse* complete with seagulls to shoot (you end up shooting them cos you slip and fall on your ar$e if you accidentally tread in their damn seagull ****)
Oh, and you DON'T play as Snake all the way thru, you get a NEW character.
Way cool game. Very similar format to first game, just tons better - if thats possible!
PTHOLT would be a nutcase to miss it!

Crispin, Metal Gear Solid 2 was released in the US (ahead of Japan & Europe) back in November. I got mine then.
Its since been released in Japan, complete with extra 'making of' movie on the DVD that the US never got.
English release is Feb/March I believe.

PS: I bought an American PS2, which meant I got it months earlier than the UK and I get the games months ahead of the UK. COOL!
