Default No sound from pc :(

After my pc crashed yesterday, my pc has appeared to have lost the ability to make a sound either from the HD or a cd. I've tried the speakers with an MP3 player and they're fine. I've updated the soundcard drivers with no change. All the volume sliders are up and nothing is set to mute. My volume icon from the task tray thingy has dissappeared too. Any ideas?

Do you have Realtek installed? Ifso check the settings, as i had the same problem a few months back. Just clicked on the cross and worked ok after that.

Cheers but no
Have found the problem however. With my pc crashing alot lately (see my other thread), i think it may have taken the sound card with it. As soon as i put my old card in - sound was restored

mmmm Brun your ram might not be issue at all then Could be a PSU issue, in turn has done something to the mobo, which might have borked the soundcard.

funnily enough I just had the same problem, my pc has 3 sound cards installed on it for some reason and none were playing through the speakers. This happened after a softwared update through windows

I couldnt get to the bottom of it but a mate of mine came around, deleted all the drivers and software for the soundcards and let them re-install and it worked.

Just make sure you wipe the lot and dont install new drivers over the old ones like I normally do
