Default Satellite Sky Box Guru Please Help!!!!!

Hi

Looking for some help as I'm not very clued up on this. I've been told I can watch Freeview on satellite as I live in an area where Freeview Boxes don't work. I've got a Sky Dish already bolted on the side of the house and I have the cable in the living room.

What satellite box do I need for this as I have no intention of subscibing to Sky. I just want to watch Freeview Channels and have a better reception for terrestrial TV using the Sky/Satellite Dish.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gordon Shek

I suspect any digital satallite boy will allow you to watch any decrypted channels.

At least ours do over here, I bought a digital box from my local electronics shop, gave to my mate in Switzerland and he knows watches BBC and ITV with no probs at all.

just get a regular sky digital box from wherever you can find one cheap, should just be plug & play.

Sister in law did the same thing, house already had a sky dish so she bought a 2nd hand box to get freeview.

You could of course go with sky's minimum package and get a new sky box free of charge...might be worth considering depending on how much the sky box is going to cost otherwise.

You'll get a few channels - which are clear (unencrypted) to view... but to get some of the others (including BBC IIRC) you need a "Freesat" card.

Have a look here for the Sky "Freesat" package, though you can also just buy (it may even be free, can't remember) the viewing card separately through Sky.

freesat from Sky - A new way to get free digital satellite TV

The use a card to control who can view what - as you obviously need to be in the UK to officially receive the terrestrial channels.

Sky used to charge £10 (one off) for a free sat card.
