Parallels image from several user accounts
I am currently setting up an IMac which will be used in a student lab enviroment, this Mac will be running Tiger 10.4.9 and
Parallels desktop version 3 (one that was release June 10th), these Macs will be bound into Active Directory (Win 2k3).
I am having problems accessing the Virtual machine from different user accounts. I have checked the FAQ on the parallels website
which came up with this:
I want to share a VM with several user accounts on my Mac. Is it possible?
Yes, it is possible. To share a VM between several user accounts do the following:
Move the VM files (.pvs and .hdd) to your shared folder (for example, Macintosh HD - Users - Shared - VM folder).
In the Finder, right-click (or Ctrl-click) the folder with the VM and choose Get Info from the pop-up menu.
In the next window expand the Ownership&Permissions group.
Expand the Details group.
Set the access level for Others to Read&Write.
Click the Apply to the enclosed items button.
After it's done, each user of your Mac should be able to access these VMs
However this doesn't work. The error message I get is "Parallels desktop is not able to access the virtual hard disk image file
xxxxx, the file is missing, corrupt or used by another application"
I have also tried moving the image to \\application\image and chaging the permissions to no avail
I have also tried admin accounts and basic user accounts

Managed to sort this in the end
Image has to be moved to Users/Shared
permissions have to be changed also through terminal, I typed
cd users/shared/image/winxp.hdd
chmod 666 * <cr>
this needs to be done for the parallels files
