Default Help Vista won't boot after security suite failed installation!

Hi All,

Brand new laptop arrived: promptly downloaded ZoneAlarm security centre to keeep it safe, the install didn't complete and now the fecking thing has caused Vista to stop booting! I tried it in safe mod, but even that didn't work!

The startup repair too has kicked in and after several long minutes contemplating it decides to disable a system check prog (most likely something Zone alarm added before the installation failed). Unfortunately, this doesn't sort the problem and the process appears to repeat ad-infintum!

Any ideas gratefully received!

not sure if its an option with vista as not used it yet, but can you select a startup option using last good known configuration?

If so then try that

Fortunately that was possible.

Many thanks for the advice mate!!

Gone back to Norton; may not be perfect, but has never let me down and at least it works with Vista!!

well done for getting it back

have a look at NOD32 for your AV solution.

(remember to completely uninstall your current AV software before installing another)

Tell me about it - was serious concerned I'd have to reinstall Vista and all the drivers on my system for a minute there. I've actually got the full compliment of security features from Norton now, so should be fully protected.

Think by complete guess work I managed to encrypt my Wireless network using WPA too :-) Thinking of limiting access to the network to my MAC code.....if I can figure out how to do that...I know it's a feature of my Router.

Can recommend: The Dell XPS M1710 - lovely high end laptop
Draytek 2800G seems very capable, even if the set up could be easier!
Virtual Glue@ E-bay company that I purchased the laptop from; saved about £400!
