Question New Wireless ADSL Router Suggestions

My D-Link 604+ ADSL wireless router started to drop the ADSL/BRoadband connection quite frequently as of late. As I have had the router for nearly 4 years, I decided to go and buy a new Netgear DG834PN to replace it. After reading the 5 star reviews on other sites.
In the words of Luke Skywalker from Star Wars 'What a pile of junk!"
The thing is useless for wireless, and I have now found out it doesn't work properly with PS3 on-line. And I have put the lartest firmware on the router etc....
So looking for yet another new router which can cater for the following:

2 Wireless PC's. One has a 11mb wireless card the other a 54mb wireless card.

Nintendo Wii
PS3
Xbox360
Canon MP600R wirless printer & Scanner
And can cater for Torrent downloads.

At the moment I have searched high and low on the internet, but cannot find anything that fits the bill.

Can anyone make a suggestion on a good wireless-4 port ADSL router?

Cheers,

Jon.

I guess you want to stay away from netgear but

Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | NETGEAR DG834N RangeMax NEXT ADSL2+ Wireless-N Router Laptop Bundle

or

Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | Draytek Vigor 2800G 108Mbps Super G Firewall VPN ADSL 2/2+ Wireless Router

Netgear is draft N, Draytek is G, had a 2600 Draytek for a couple of years and ran without problems

Cheers guys.

How good is the Draytek's Wireless signal? And how good is it for setting up portforwarding/Firewall rules?

never used the 2800 but the 2600 was very flexible allowing loads of rules. Not the easiest interface to use it has to be said but I think the 2800 interface is better. Plenty of rules can be added and firewall rules are very flexible (restirct to IP or several ranges etc)

not sure how the wireless will compare to the Netgear, does support WDS though (link 2 routers wirelessly for extra range)...costly option though

Cheers Mike. Looks like the 2800 isn't too bad. Just found the config on portforward.com. Looks like I'll be ordering one of those and the 5db extra gain attennas.

Well I gone and bought a Draytek. So far quite impressed. Although I get a weakish signal, even though I opted for the 5db aerials for the router. So now looking at a better wireless PCI card. Any suggestions?

which ones do you use currently, the Cisco wireless cards I've always found to be ace. Not sure about picking up weak signals but the PCI card has a wire so you can move the ariel away from the machine. IIRC Draytek don't sell PCI wireless cards.

eBay.co.uk: CISCO AIRONET WIRELESS 802.11 ABG PCI AIR P121AG E K9 (item 150120825917 end time 19-May-07 07:53:15 BST)

something to have a gander at

Had a setup once at a student union. 10 laptops with cisco PCMCIA cards and a Draytek router, not one dropout in 2 weeks. Range wasn't an issue mind as they were quite close

p.s. brand new they aint cheap

Currently using some Asus freebie PCI card (Rebadged RAlink card?). And an external 5db ariel on a short lead. Updated the drivers to current Ralink drivers and the signal still bounces around 54mb to as low as 1mb. Internet connection can drop out sometimes.
Just wondering what others are using?

Thanks for the tip on the cisco card though

Ummm.. Nah. Don't have any spare power sockets. And all my 4 ports on the back of the router are taken. Good find though . Trying to keep wireless if possible. At the moment I seem to have stabled the connection. But the wierdest thing is that when power on one of the PCs in the room directly above the router, I loose the ADSL connection, and thats without the Network card installed . Weird one or what
