Default Sony Handycam to PC

Anyone connected a Sony hadnycam to a pc.
I have followed the instructions but the pc isn't picking the camera up properly via usb for some unknown reason.
Pulling my hair out!
Any hints and tips most welcome.

I think you need a firewire connection and cable, not a USB one. Normally the USB one is for transferring photos only.

Hmmmm.
The thing is, the camera has usb streaming which doesn't seem to want to work.
I'm finding it hard to believe that a modern camera can't simply connect to a laptop for burning dvd's.

Anybody know what a hanycam i-link plugs into on a computer.
Is there a usb adapter or something?

I-link "is" firewire You need the small size to the full size. They are about 68p to 99p on ebuyer or amazon re-sellers

I've managed to record footage from a Sony Handycam just using the USB connection. Win XP Service Pack 2 should auto detect it, then I just used Windows movie maker to record the footage. Make sure the camera is set to stream USB though.
If you're struggling look up the camera model on Sony's website and download drivers / software for it.

Next question is how do you burn a dvd as the file movie maker creates is a windows audio media file, or do these play on most dvd players?
