HDMI on Xbox 360

HDMI on Xbox 360
Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a 360, but what with the new Elite coming out (whenever that may be, here in the UK), I'm wondering if I should wait. I'm not really that bothered about the bigger HDD, but will an HDMI connection make for a noticeably better picture on an HD display?
If I use a Premium Xbox 360 with a component cable, would there really be any difference in the picture?
Of course an HDMI cable would carry sound too, but I don't mind running a separate cable for sound.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Unless you're running at 1080p on a very big screen, you're not going to see a huge difference. Most people are running amps with optical inputs, so audio over HDMI is no advantage.

Tried using my 360 on my Sony W series 1080p screen yesterday, would only go up to 1080i via component - has anyone else had this issue?
PS3 is working fine @ 1080p via HDMI.

I seem to remember reading that the Sony sets will only accept a 1080p signal over hdmi (not component). Don't quote me on it though (it's a vague memory)...

Tried the VGA cable with my 40W2000 Bravia and the pic was awful (blurred, washed-out and no sound), but its more a problem with 360 rather than the TV. There's an article about it in this months What Hi-Fi and they say they had alsorts of problems trying to get 1080p from the 360 and imagine how many TV's they had lying around to try it on.
Component can't do 1080p anyway - its either HDMI or DVI/VGA.

Most likely, if its white I can do the switch and the other half will be none the wiser
I won't get a PS3 until there's some killer titles . . . and its white or silver

I must admit the current available games is what's putting me off getting a PS3 at the mo. Couple that with the fact that my bro bought himself a 360 at xmas and he keeps challenging me to get one so we can fight it out online
It's not him I'm worried about, it's my 9 y/o nephew that scares me

What you really need to ask yourself is why you need 1080p?! There is enough discussion on the internet that seems to suggest that the difference between 1080i & 1080p is non apparant.
It is a minefield imho.
I have took the other approach and just bought a Projector.... watching films and playing your 360 / PS3 on a 80"+ widescreen is AWESOME!!! Switching back to the 42" plasma for normal viewing is like looking at a portable again.

I don't need 1080p, but I would like to free up my component sockets so I don't have to use a switch box. Tried the official VGA cable but I seem to get interference from the 360 with it, plus my DVD amp is connected to the VGA socket. Shame you can't daisy chain HDMI

Dunk - MS have said they won't be doing a black HD DVD drive - but then again they said they wouldnt be doing any HD DVD drive 12 months ago - or an HDMI port for that matter...
...so expect one around Xmas maybe?
There are lots of AV Amps on the market now that HDMI switchers on - the Sony 1200ES is very well regarded.

OK so if I have a Sony KDL-32V2500 that I want to connect either a 360 / 360 Elite / PS3 (or maybe all ) would any of you pop pickers like to clear up for me whether having a HDMI connection or component really make any difference to me?

Why? I would even combine the controller colors. Black bottom with black triggers and white on the top, etc. I guarantee there will be people doing this right at the beginning. Maybe we will even get black guitars for GHII (but unfortunately these come from redoctane).
