Default Windows VPN client - stopping it popping up

Since adding a VPN connection to WindowsXP SP2, I find its popping up when I don't want it to.

eg. when I'm surfing the web and am not using the VPN client, it will pop up from time to time.

Its just your average home computer, connected to the net via a DSL router.

Anyone been through this already ?
