Default Setting up YouTube style website

Hi guys,
Just in the process of developing our own interactive Youtube type website. We are partnering with a few companies. . It will work exactly the same as youtube, just with a few tweaks here and there. There will be a hell of a lot of videos uploaded on a regular basis that will need to be viewed by various clients and eventually stored and filed in an online library.

Now I am stumbling a tad with how to start the implementation of such a project and was wondering if any of you guys out there, could throw some ideas my way..cheers

Gary, that is great, thanks mate.
Certainly a start, but I think I might need some companies that can do some serious amount of bandwidth and I just am unsure if that company can handle the uploading we may need.

Tony,

Dont forget when you sell it for $800mill I want a fiver for that info ok?

I think most of those ones I sent are for the scripts only so you could host it yourself or with someone geared up to handle it.

Get a dedicated server from someone like 123reg/donhost/pipex family for £50-80 per month and have unlimited bandwidth. Obviously you might to spend more if you are talking and GB?TBs of disk space....

Gary,
consider it done
just get 'your' people to spek to 'our' people

It is still in the planning stage at the moment, but I have been given the resonsibiklty of sourcing and sorting out the logistics..oh whoopee do

I have in place the content (variable ), the actual production company, their requirements etc. Now all we need is the streaming company and server hosting company.

We are talking GB's and TB's of data, with cross platform serving covering the whole spectram of media players, the ability to store and backup all this data, a bastid SLA and loads of other things too boring to mention

jesus, out of all the companies I have been approaching, no-one seems to grasp the concept

cant be hard to have a service whereby we upload stuff, they archive it,they handle all media formats or at least the two main ones namely quicktime and WMP and then they get some money in return........

bloody grrrr

Hi Swiss,

I dont mean to rain on your parade, but whats makes yours different from the many many others out there right now?

You could spend a lot of money creating this with no revenue, whats your USP?

others include

Youtube
Google Video
yahoo video

In fact just search on the web for 'upload video' and you find dozens more Ive never heard of!

All the successfull ones accept any media format and convert to flash

Goodluck!

ok, you may have got me wrong
This is a commercial venture, but it is not the mainstay of the company we are working with, they are going to use it as a vehicle for media streaming and as a showcase...I doubt it will be a massive part of the company.

However, it has to be personalised and be part of the company/domain, so that rules out hopping onto already established sites like the ones you mentioned.

If it makes it easier to understand, we are trying to get a solution in place that is not a rival of these sites (youtube, google video), but rather have in place the same infrastructure and services as them..so apart from me ringing them up and asking how they do it I need to figure out the best solution (with your lot's help )

We can probably do most or all of what you are looking for....but a service like that wouldn't be a cheap project.

PM me with some more details and a phone number/email address.

Cheers
