Stand alone DVD Recorders for Sky+?
I know its not computer related but its as close a match as I can see.
I have Sky+ and want a DVD recorder to output stuff to.
I would like to know the following if anyone can help.
1) Is there a DVD Recorder with HDD that allows a LAN/USB connection so that I can put my own DivX on the HDD to either play back or record to DVD. Also, can I take files from it to a PC?
2) The ones that have a HDD, can you actually edit the DVD before burning?
Thats about it really. Budget of around £200.
Cheers.

I am going to follow this thread with interest
I would think there are a few AV forums out there that may have more detail that you will get here. I don't know that much but I will have a go at your questions
1) I'm not aware of a recorder like this, and I don't think you will see one from any of the major manufacturers soon. These ppl are all scared of Divx format due to copying, so they are not going to make it easy for you imo.
2) On ours, you cannot.
You can get movies to and from our recorder. Simply make a movie to a DVDRW and then play in a PC. To take a divx movie to the recorder I just convert it in Nero and burn to DVDRW. Its a slow process, but one that is automated. My machine and DVDRW are slow, so for me I need about 3 hrs notice to convert a divx film and get it onto a disc ready to play.

This is the closest I've seen to what you want:
Linksys.com - Products/Wireless/Entertainment/Networked DVD Players/VR-558
Appears to do everything you want in one way or another, but I think its way out of budget.

some of the cheaper dvd recorders (liteon for example) play divx (avi) files. these cost about £60-70 and means you can write an avi file to a dvd-rw in 5 minutes and it would be ready to watch. not quite as elegant as lan but cheap and effective.
