Default Connecting to other peoples wirelessbroadband

my son has a habit of connecting to other peoples wireless broadband to play online games
dont bother me really but i was wondering if his computer name will be visable, they are live on the other side of the road and have an unsecured network

Hello

His computer name will be visible, yes. I can see who is connected to my router. Unless it says something like "neighbour_across_the_road" I don't anyone would work it out.

It is illegal as you probably know.

His computer name is the same as his name so could be awkward when we see them
also could it have any security issuses, may have a few cc numbers used for online purchases and his online game stuff (runescape)

Change the computer name! It takes a few seconds and makes no difference to any programs (I'll rephrase that, normal programs) you have running on the machine.

The credit card stuff will be protected and I doubt that any log will be kept of the pages he is visiting. His penchant for Naughty Nuns and Donkeys is safe for now.

Your router will have a page that tells you the DHCP addresses that it has given out and at what time.

or suggest to your neighbours that they might like to get some security on their wifi
