you need to set it to 1080 interlaced (1080i) then flick the switch. Also make sure you have your component leads connected to the correct plugs

6 COMPONENT LEADS????
surely you mean 3 component plugs ?
is it a 360 premium (with hard drive)
or a cheaper one without , as the cheaper ones shipped with composite leads not component
sounds like you have a composite lead and need to buy a component

You said six connectors, you only use five. Unplug the yellow one and see what happens.

Or just the RGB leads if you are putting sound through an amp via an optical cable.

In fact it might an idea to unplug the red and white leads anyway and just use the red green and blue ones until you get a picture up.

I would...

-Use the composte scart lead
-turn on the xbox and set it to 720p
-connect up the RGB component leads - dont connect up sound just yet (red & white)
-disconnect the scart lead
-switch the button on the AV connector into the 360 to "HD"
-Reset the console
-Switch the TV over to the component-in signal.
-Once you have a picture up - hook up the red and white leads.
