Default Urgent help for computer virus threat please.

Mods can you please not move this as I've had it posted in the appropriate forum for 24 hours with no replies.

Since yesterday my laptop keeps telling me I'm not protected against a rapidly spreading threat ie Trojan Peacom. I'm following the prompts and clicking the Norton icon on the desktop and then clicking live updates. I've done this twice and restarted the computer.
When I then click the Norton icon again it still tells me I'm not protected against this virus, but it does say the data is correct as of 22/1/07 1400hrs.

Even when I opened up the laptop today I got the Norton pop up again saying that I'm not protected.

Can anyone please explain whats going on???

sounds like the trojan could well be stopping norton from doing it's job. I'd try booting up into safe mode with networking, then run norton and see if it can remove the pesky little bast.

You don't actually say that you have done a full system scan with Norton, only that you have updated it? dl (who knows sweet FA about computers )

I had the same problem yesterday.
My Norton was over a year out of date so I updated it, did a LiveUpdate, scanned it and it went away.
Cost me £28.00.

This might sound stupid but how would I know its out of date? When I click the Norton icon it shows that all protection is on and allows me to run a scan, I presume this means its not out of date?

The computer is not telling me I've been attacked by Trojan Peacom (I'm running a full scan as we speak) but that I'm not protected against it.

Deep Singh - I had similar and I knew my AntiVirus was out of date (but could still scan) so I clicked the update bit.

To be honest it took me ages to get rid of the flashing logo and I'm not 100% sure what did it but it worked in the end!

NAV03 is finished and no longer supported. If not NAV03 how are you paying for your updates although you may have it installed the subscription may have expired.
I now get my software NAV, firewall, spam gaurd via my internet provider and is included in the package ...BTyahoo

Try going to Trend Micro Enterprise Homepage (Global) and there should be some manual removal instructions there I think.

NAV07 is only £29.99. buy online and downlaod it. Being out of date will still allow you to use the sofware (you own it) but will not accept live updates.

If you click the live update button what does it say?

If you've got a Trojan in your machine, go to the following link and download the free version of Adaware SE Personal

Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition - Reviews and free downloads at Download.com

Install it and then do a live update from the server and perform the full system scan option

This will locate all of the Trojans and other spyware dialers on your hard drive. When it's finished it will display what it's found. Check the boxes to select the items and remove them

I believe this might solve your problem
