Default Please suggest a good graphics card

Hi all
Looking to change my graphics card.
Ive got an 8x AGP slot upto AGP2.0, but to the best of my knowledge, not a PCI express slot.
I do obviously have PCI slots but only 1 left now.
Right now I have an ATI 8500DV with 64MB RAM.
Im normally keen on getting something that been around for 6 months off of ebay so that Im not paying 100s of pounds.
I use my PC for DV editing and lots of driving and shootemup games.
Ive got a AMD3000 Socket A CPU and 1GB RAM.

Grateful for any thoughts.

Cheers

Brett

Nvidia 7800GS (256MB) £100 or less. One of the fastest AGP cards you can buy. There are different flavours of the 7800 which are faster, but they are alot more expensive.

I would go with ATI as well.

I've just ordered an ATI X1950XT to replace my 512mb X1600Pro but unfortunately it's PCI-E so no good for you.

Problem at the moment is the advent of DX10. We now face the perennial problem of anyone upgrading a p.c.: wait or buy?

Saying that tho' - I'd lump for the X1950Pro which DOES come in an AGP flavour:

ebuyer.com - Graphics Cards » Graphics Cards ATI » ATI Radeon X1950 Range » Product details

A used 6800GT or 6800 Ultra from ebay if second hand is no problem with you. Will cost around the £100 mark. Overclock the GT to Ultra speed with no trouble

ATI x800xt very overclockable
ATI x850xt On par with the nvidia 6800 Ultra.

I tend to go for the Nvidia range as I find that the drivers are more stable and don't have to be continually changed to keep up with the latest game.

The reason I suggest a used card is that sooner or later you will decide to upgrade to PCI-E and spending a big chunk of money on a card might rub a little if you change sooner.

The problem with ATi cards is the drivers are ****e. Nvidia cards have much better support and VID drivers.

Mart you were just unlucky, I've never had any reliability issues with cards from either ATi or Nvidia. I guess the brand of the card you buy could affect reliability.
