Linking PC to X360 to play video and audio
All,
I assume at least some of you must have done this?
I have both my PC and 360 wireless networked to broadband, but not to each other. My PC runs XP. Is that even possible, does not have to be Media Centre version?
Can somebody give me a really simple overview of how to get this working, so I can view photos and videos on my LCD in the living room.
Also, does its stream or does it copy across to the 360 locally?
I have media centre version original too so I could feasibly swap if it was worth the hassle.
thanks
Ed

If you've got windows media player 11 on there then it's just a simple question of getting the 360 to search for the PC.
It will stream music and pictures without you having to have Media Centre installed

really? That sounds too simple to me
How do you 'browse' content / folders from the 360? I assume you have to set your PC to be 'shared'?

Note it only seems to work with wmv video (no divx yet), and jpg images (no raw support)...

Xbox.com | System Use - Use a PC with Xbox 360
Will it work wirelessly or only via ethernet / direct link?
Is it worth me replacing xp with media centre edition, seeing as I have both, or is it a waste of my time reinstalling everything.

Wireless is ok for photos and normal video, but it's not really fast enough for HD video. Tried this (wireless) at my brothers house last week and it really did struggle with HD.
Got mine hard wired to a router via ethernet, and it's plenty quick enough. You can see the speed difference with photos as well, but it's not as servere.
As for XP vs Media center, that's really up to you. I tried MC for a while, but soon went back to normal XP. It doesn't give you much and the extra media center bits seemed to use rather a lot of system resources for very little reward.

Tried mine wireless for a while and it wasn't really up to scratch. Now have mine all hardwired together and it runs like a dream.
I have Media Centre on my PC and although PC-side its not a vast difference, it makes a massive difference XBox-side. Connected to a Media Centre PC it really shines, looks fantastic IMO. I stream MPEG4 movies using Transcode360 and its excellent. Having the MCE interface on your HDTV is
