Default which pc would run faster?

one with a single 800Mhz/256 cpu

or one with a dual 500Mhz/512 cpu

Depends on the software you are running. If you are running stuff that is multi-threaded (i.e. can take advantage of multi-processors) then I'd guess you might see better speed from the dual, but for the majority of stuff I'd expect the single core to be faster.

Difficult to say for sure without knowing a few more details though

as you can tell by the speed (P3's) not heavy duty stuff. I'm guessing the extra cache isnt going make a huge difference.

just having a clearout and getting the best out of the crap ive got - far too much littering my room.

Going to make 1 media pc (connect to xbox maybe) out of it all and bin the rest.

ok found some other processors so now a
dual 800/256
dual 500/512
guess i'll make a dual 800


edit: or can you use an external usb drive with xbox in which case i'll scrap the lot

Not sure about the xbox, but you can hook up and external usb drive to the xbox 360, (I've done this to view photos but haven't tried video).

sorry yes 360, just got one. so i take it you cant run games from ext HD or download from live to Ext.HD?
