Default x box 360 to pc

What am I doing wrong? I want stream ll my music and pictures and video to my x box.

Im not using windows media centre, i just have the normal windows xp installed, I have media player 11 and the zune software yet still i cant connect?

My x box 360 says it can not detect windows media connect software, what is this WMC software? I cant see it as a download anywhere.

I have not touched any of the firewall settings because im not sure what i need to change. Im not sure if this is the problem. I need some advice before i start tinkering.

I found a thread on here a few days ago with a download for something similar to Windows media center, but the link never worked. This is the link if anyone has an idea what it is. link that doesnt work

Cheers Adam

i had the same problem first off have you run xbox pc connet program found on xbox.com if so

Open wmp 11 on the big library button at the top right click then click media sharing make sure the xbox360 is ticked green if not it wont share. Make sure the fire wall is open to xbox sharing in contole panel you should have these options if you have run the connet program.

Edit you also need to down load .net frame work from ms

If you have WMP11 installed and have shared the library etc via the media player interface, and still cannot connect, then it's almost certainly the firewall that's causing the problems.

Mine's connected to the router via an ethernet cable, athough wireless will work as well. It just does a network scan to find the pc, so as long as the pc isn't firewalled on the required ports, the xbox should find it.

Note, that the wireless connections do seem to struggle a bit when streaming HD video. It's ok on normal low definition video though, (it uses less bandwidth).

If you open media player and the associated sharing options, is the xbox listed with a big green tick on it?

if you find a cheap place to get Windows Media from let me know please, think MS want about 70quid for it..

Without know what you've done it's difficult to say, but it sounds like somthing a little more serious is going on. Fiddling with the firewall settings shouldn't cause a message like that. Can you still browse the interweb ok on the machine?

p.s. AK, Media connect does not stream video on normal XP, only on media center. However, if you install WMP11 on normal xp it will stream wmv video files over to the xbox. I suspect it's only a matter of time before someone gets it streaming divx etc...

I tried to get my PC and 360 talking yesterday, I have Vista Beta 2 as my Media PC. No joy there, Vista told me it configured the 360 ok but that it can't connect to it! So I installed WMP11 on a XP machine and it all worked as soon as I browsed for computer on the 360 not Media Center (silly boy). I then install TVersity and stopped sharing in WMP and that worked to, just have a problem with the TVersity service crashing when I try and play a DivX movie, it's fine with WMVs.

You can do it with XP and TVersity, although I don't like TVersity cause it just lists all the films in one long long list.

You wait, we'll all get it finally working and MS will release a new update that gives native DivX support

Ok lets see if can find the problem.

If your doing by network cable can you still get on xbox live chaps. The reson your geting "limited or not connectivity" is because your network isnt right

Start-connect to - show all conections - right click the one you have the xbox pluged in to - now life click internet protocol (tcp/ip) then click properities and what does it say in there about ip and subnet mask.

The download link on the TVersity site had loads of stuff about this, from memory it says rename it to add the .EXE back. Firefox downloaded it fine here.

Right im back,

Ive got the pc to recognise my x box 360, but my x box cant recognise mt pc.

What now? is there a way to configure my x box to recognise my pc?

cheers Adam

ps,

My original problem ive solved. I went into the services menu by START>RUN>SERVICES.MSC it give you a list of services that the computer runs behind the scenes and behind all your other programs. You dont even notice them.

I went down to windows media sharing and it had been "disabled" so I just enabled it, Bingo!!! computer found my x box.

Half my problem solved!!!

That sounds like a firewall issue on your pc, (i.e. it is blocking the xbox from accessing the media sharing service).

Ive had it working once, but windows would not sync with the X box.

I turn off the windows firewall. When trying to connect to the X box. Although i do have my own mcfee on!!! would that stop the two machines from talking?

I think i have network issues? how do i configure both network settings? On both machines (PC and X box) the network setings are set on "automatic".

Is it worth me changing them manually? I know how access all the networks details on my pc, im not sure what i need to change to make the machines read from each other?

Any advice?

If you have all network settings as automatic (i.e. dchp) then the two machines should just see each other. Mine did (although I'm using static ips now so I could get xbox live working properly through my router firewall).

McAfee could prove to be a problem depending on which product you have. If you just have the antivirus then it shouldn't interfere, but if you have the full security package, that includes it's own firewall which could be blocking the connection.
