Question Any recommendations for a 32" or 37" LCD?

Not with freeview (got Sky)

Not the Toshiba either - been onto AV forums. Too many issues with the 66, and I can't afford the 68

Budget is up to £800......

Any suggestions?

Don't know what to go for

Ah - so you've been reading about my problems with thr 66 then eh?

AFAIK the 32WLT66 doesnt suffer from the buzz problem that 37 does - If the damn thing doesnt get repaired to my satisfaction I'm gonna claim a refund and get a Sony - and f*ck the budget!!

Should have gone with Sony in the first place - only went with the Tosh cos it had £600 knocked off.

Don't the Sony's suffer from fan noise as well ? (I've got the 32" Tosh and am very pleased with it). What about the JVC 32DS6 ?

LOL
I'm being greedy and really want a 37"

Just looked at the JVC - getting some good feedback

Shame I can't find one!!

How about LG? They've got Sony parts right?

IIRC Sony dont do a 37" - next up from 32 is 40.

In all honesty, I've had my 37" HD set for 2 months and while it is a big leap in quality, I wish I'd not bothered and waited for a little longer and got a 1080p set ready for PS3 & blu-ray - prices are dropping all the time and the jump from 720 to 1080 is a hell of a lot bigger than the one from SD to 720 HD.

See what you're saying, but I think it could be a fair while until the 1080p are about £800!!!

Was thinking with the LG, that it uses Sony internals....

Dont think it'll be too long, SED & OLED TV's are due later this year and by all accounts they're dirt cheap to manufacture - 50"ers will be around £1K so regular LCD's are being slashed to compete.

The Sony Bravia X-series have dropped a lot - about £4k when they were launched less than a year ago - you can pick one up and still have change out of £2K now - still a lot of money, but buying a telly these days is as hazardous as buying a PC...

The only HD source I have is the 360 though, looks superb in HD but I dont think its an enormous leap over my SD Sony Wega that I replaced with the Tosh.

Nice one Messiah,

My problem is that I don't know how long my current TV's gonna last!!

My one option is to go for a cheaper TV now, with a view to "upgrading", and putting this new purchase up in the bedroom......

I really don't know though.

Perhaps it's worth going for best TV in budget now and hope that the next gen aren't too cheap.
I'm kinda limited in size due to my room, so I can see this whole thing evening out - people won't buy a huge display just because it's cheap.......

IMHO, the chasing of the latest technology is a fruitless exercise (writing this on a MacBookPro - non duo-core - there ain't that much difference!)

So, with that in mind everybody, gimme some recommended model numbers (that JVC does look good too )

Thanks

Dan

Don`t wait for SED`s, the head guy at toshiba has already said that SED`s cannot compete with LCD in the near futer, So they have binned the 42" version for now and the only size they will be releasing is the 55" with no tuner etc, for the buisness market.

The first ones aimed at the consumer market look like they will not hit the streets until 2008 when they get big enough yeilds force a price drop. Especially as 42" lcd panels are now starting to drop to below $600. On the sony front they don`t actully make any panels all there panels come from a south korean LCD manufacturer. Toshiba use LG panels, With Hitachi, LG an Samsung using there own panels I should think panasonic make there own panels.

I will be buying a 32" flat panel in the near future. Missus won`t let me go any bigger, But it`s still bigger than the 28 widescreen tosh crt we have at the minute. Will not buy sony, why spend all that money on an HD screen and only have one HDMI socket. So at the moment it is a competition between the tosh 32wlt68 and the panny 32 blah 600. I will decide when I see the picture on them both. If the missus let`s me have another flat panel just for gaming then I won`t need A screen with 3 HDMI sockets so the panny will most probably get my money.

I think Sony are now making their own screens, they they first binned CRT's they were using someone else's (cant remember who's) but all the sets were getting slated in the press when Sony TV gear is normally top notch - now that they're doing their own, they're bagging all the awards again.

There is a newer version of LCD due out soon that has per pixel lighting to combat the crap black level problem, although expect these to cost a small fortune.

If you're planning on upgrading to a bigger & better set then there's no harm in getting a 720p set now - I'm doing the same thing as I expected 1080p sets to have a high premium for quite a while, they still do but I doubt it will be for much longer, most manufacturers keep saying that 720 is enough, but since Sony are chucking out the 1080 TV's with the "Full HD" speil, the rest are having to do likewise to keep up with the higher number game.

I initially wanted a 37. Did a cardboard cutout of the actual size of a 37 and concluded it would dominate the lounge.
Most lads say the bigger the better but if you want your room to look proportionate, go for a sensible size.
We went for a LG 32" HD in black.

The last person i know said that went and spent £3k on a sony... But the LG was just a repackaged sony.

There are only 3 or 4 display manufacturers the rest are just repackaged. Do you really think that everyone will be doing there own R&D whats the benifit when you can share the internals and just apply you own external casing..

Exactly the same principle as Audi, VW, SEAT

I've got a Samsung LE3273N. Love it to bits. Picture, even on normal channels is great. Sound is a little weak and I haven't suffered from the red blurring some people have on the AV forums.
My dad brought the Sony S32 something or other at the same time, I think my picture is better (although to be fair I have spent a couple of hours setting it up whereas my dad probably got bored after 30mins) but the sound out of his TV is much better.
I went for the Samsung over the Sony cause the style of it suits our lounge better, and it happened to be cheaper

To be brutally honest i don't care, Ive had my topic and posts about LCD and plasma and settled on the samsung as the general style of the plasma suited the room.

Have you seen this one? a little over budget but sometimes its good to stretch yourself!

Sharp LC37XD1E - £999

Seems to be well rated on avforums although there are some concerns over banding (mixed, some people have it, some dont).

Only will do 1080p over HDMI though so the 360 won't work in 1080p unless a HDMI cable gets released by MS...

Samsung are a rebanged NEC and are one of the best screens on the market.

I was just pointing out there is badge/brand snobbery when buying electrical items as there are when people choose there car.

Wasnt said to offend in anyway!

Question

I had looked at the Sharp, but I can't stretch to that sort of money

TBH, there seems to be very little choice at 37".

JVC (37dr7) & LG (37LC3R) look pretty good.

The Toshiba 37WLT66 is proving a bit of a risky purchase though, due to it's "issues". The 32" version seems ok though The 68 looks good, but out of my price range!

Samsung don't do a 37", but do a half decent 32" or 40" for a bit more (don't think I can stretch though)

However, I *think* I've got a bit of a shortlist -

Bear in mind the criteria - (to include my Xbox 360 & Wii, Toshiba SD530e (prog scan) DVD, Sky). No need for good sound, as it will all be going through my existing Yamaha AV amp. Would also like to be able to plug in my PC/MacBook Pro (although not essential)
Freeview tuner not essential either, due to having Sky, but never say "never"! Don't need any USB/media card reading either.

The shortlist so far is -

Panasonic
TX-32LXD600

Panasonic
TX-32LXD60A

JVC
LT-32DX7

JVC
LT-37DR7

Samsung
LE32R74BDX

Samsung
LE32N73BD

LG
37LC3R

Sharp
LC37GD8E

The only ones that I'm put off with are the Panny - due to not being able to produce "Pro Evo 6" on the 360 too well.....

Can anybody tell me the other pros/cons of these sets?

Cheers,

Dan
