Default Help me before i go mad ( pc Related )

I have just bought a new pc. I bought it all in bits and got a friend of mine to build this for me he has build many before including my last one. I got it back yesterday and plugged it in and it cut all my electric in my house. He has gone away for the weekend so thinking he has done something wrong i took it to a local computer shop and they said there was a few things wrong with it. My dad then went and collected it and paid them 55 pound for fixing it. I came back tonight when to turn it on and the same thing happen.

My question is why has this happen ?

It must of been working at my mates because all the software is on there so why will it now not work here and also the shop must of had it running.

I have tried a few plugs in my house and it still trips the house out when ever i turn it on.

My last computer run fine and i had my tv and sky plus and dvd all plugged into the same socket. This computer will not run on its own in that socket

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Power supply fubarred..

Take it back to the shop and ask for your money back.

and a claim for your busted 50" plasma that went when the power tripped..

well it is chrimbo after all (tounge in cheek)

KAPUT, busted, broken,

F8cked Up Beyond All Recognition (fubar, ed)

its either got a dead short, or a major fault if its blowing the power to your home.

dont try to repair it yourself, and dont run it without a load applied..

agree, the powersupply unit is the chief suspect.

your RCD in your consumer unit probably has a crossed or 'borrowed' neutral, or you have serious polarity issues with your ring main

switch mode powersupplys have a propensity for letting go without warning, and can blow often on switching on.

Ive had two go whilst powered up and running, the mil had one go when she powered up after a spell of inactivity. each time there was no warning!!

given that fuses keep blowing, and the only new connected is the pc,s power supply, then its a 95% chance of it being that,

the other being the monitor, but i would guess thats already been eliminated from the enquiry

and at about £14 notes its a relativly cheap way to proove it out by replacing the psu

Yea but still, even if it is a faulty PSU it's highly unlikely it would trip out his whole house! Likelyhood of it being the PSU is 5% imo.

I'm sure your mate or the shop would of said something if it had killed the power at either property Good luck.

but it prolly didnt do it there, or they would have said something.

I had a psu go mid session, pop, no pc... i checked the fuse in the plug, blown.

i replaced the fuse in the plug turned on.... bang tata fuse again.

now i dont have rcd,s fitted on that circuit... but if i did they would be tripping,

ive had a light in my kitchen blow, and wipe out the main ring fuse.

it dosent have to be much to do it..

If you dont think its the psu? and the monitor is fine,

can you work out what else could be doing it???

the pc needs 240v to power the psu, all other components, past the psu need 12v or 5v.

it comes back to the psu!!

why dont we have we have a poll? l
my moneys on the PSU..
