Default Laptop linking upto a Tv

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and would like to link it upto my new TV which is a PHILIPS widescreen flat TV 37PF7531D/10 37". Does any one know how to do this and what cables I will need.

if your tv has a 9pin d-sub, then just get a normal vga cable will do (usually coloured blue at the head).

The manual for the TV says something about using a hdmi to dvi cable for best connection. Does this sound about right.

Yeah DVI is fine, if your laptop have a spare DVI output, failing that use the 9pin d-sub it will have on the back with a converter plug.

sorry, just notice my mistake. the VGA port on your laptop is a 15-PIN D-SUB. you can get the cable for a 15-PIN to DVI.

to get the sound from your laptop to the TV speakers, get a 3.5 jack both ends. one end to the laptop headphone and the other end to the TV line in.

VGA = analogue.
DVI and HDMI are digital.
You can't connect VGA to HDMI.
HDMI = DVI + sound.

DVI connecter also has VGA which is why you can use an adaptor on it to a VGA monitor.

Laptops with DVI are rare I think.
