id get one from the usa. specifically at the minute as the dollar is worth bugger all and the pound is strong, so you will be paying a lot less than you would here.

Thats a good point about the dollar being weak.

I have just noticed that its not PAL why did they not make the without an region like the PSP.

Would there be any problems with NTSC????

Thanx

simplygames.com or gamestation.co.uk I found are the cheapest places. High demand means you'll struggle no matter where you look really.

They are not PAL simply because they are for the american market. You will need a tv capable of ntsc and maybe ntsc games if you want to use it on a normal tv. Although isn't HD the same in any country? If that is the case then just use it with a HD telly.

HD is not the same as NTSC and PAL. You will be able to get an NTSC one converted to PAL, but where, and how much this will cost I do not know.

TBH, I wouldn't bother at the moment. I am in Texas, and the geeks have only just removed their tents from outside Best Buy (the comet / currys type place) and I believe the amount of games available at launch make it poor value.

You could try pre-ordering for UK release at www.play.com or Amazon.co.uk: low prices in Electronics, Books, Music, DVDs & more

I know HD isn't the same as ntsc or pal. HD is the same everywhere isn't it? My point was that if you can use a hd tv then it won't matter if it is ntsc or pal. Most tvs nowadays support both anyway. You are right about the launch games aswell. Personally I wouldn't bother as it will take about 12 months for the ps3 to mature.

the machines are meant to be the same for any country and switchable between ntsc and pal, the only difference is meant to be for the dvds, and lets face it most people have a dvd player now anyway

I've got a PS3 from Japan and can confirm it plays all PS3 games as the console is region free for games so will play all games from the UK when released.
However it will not play region 2 Pal dvd's or PS2 Pal games. But it does play all region Blu-Ray movies.
IMHO it's worth the money on this alone as any Blu-Ray dvd machines cost well over £700 at the mo.
My sons also have a XBOX 360 but I will say that the Blu-Ray games disc's are in a different leauge for picture quality

Well, nobody believed me when I said it was going to be March, but now the latest I am hearing is August or even September release for UK. Not as concrete as the March rumour was pre-xmas, but some serious weight behind it nonetheless.

Yep think it's going to be April at least, if you can get a pre order that is latest I heard is a shortage of Blu Ray components

I can confirm both the Japan version & the USA version work fine with most modern TV's that support PAL/NTSC. My own Japan one is linked via HDMI to 42" Plasma

Yes, there really isn't any issue with Pal/NTSC unless you want to play old PAL PS2 games or PAL DVD's. Games are region free so will play from around the world.
I think that once you have seen the Blu- Ray disc's you wont buy another DVD, plus the price of a Blu Ray film is around the same as a DVD!!

Just to clarify, would a US version work via HDMI on a HD PAL TV without any problem?

Hi from what people have told me it should have no problems with using it here the plug would only cost a maximum of £10 probably can buy the UK plugs from ebay.

Thanx.
