Default Network ready printer below £100?

This can be either ethernet or wireless, I dont mind. Doesnt have to be a photo quality printer either. Whats out there?

I have searched and found next to nothing.

Wayne.

PS Dont want to use a print server if I can get a network ready printer to start off with.

Same question but want a colour one. Doesn't matter about high quality photo's but need good quality letters.

If a wirelss print server is £60,i may as well replace my 5 year old printer.

Hi,
Thanks but i dont need a photocopier or scanner. Just a decent quality printer for home office use and the occasional photo.

As for the one from Misco, that seems awfully cheap for a network ready printer. Are Misco reliable?

Just buy any printer and add a "print server" for £40

Print server plugs into printer's port - other end plugs into your LAN

D-Link DP-301P+ Fast Ethernet Print Server

NB: the example above is for a printer with a parallel printer port - you can also buy print servers for use with printers that have usb printer ports.

I was going to mention this one - virtually half price, duplex and Network printing - Mac, PC, Linux drivers and the seperate ink tanks are pretty decent price

Hi,
I have a printer with a parallel port at the back. I have a desktop and a laptop and i want to share the printer. So all i do is buy this thing, stick it in the back of my printer, set it up and i can use it on both pc's. One XP,the other win 2k.
I also have a belkin wireless set up for using my laptop wireless. I think its that 802.11 thingy.
Finally if i buy a new printer in the future i'll have to get one with a parallel port. Will that be a problem?

Thanks in advance.
Paul.

HP OFFICEJET PRO K550DTN

I'm sure there's other places that stock it - but £50 + VAT seemed a good buy. Was gonna try it myself to replace a (windows only ) Oki laser printer. I love the OKi but I need something a bit smaller

I've used external print servers before......and never found them all the reliable!

But Print Server plugs into your network (router) and connects to printer. Anything on the network with appropriate drivers can print to it.

Personally, I would rather have a printer with internal Network socket.

That depends on what you're printing. Parallel is slower than USB or network so if you're printing stuff with loads of graphics and need to print at the printer's maximum pages per minute you might (will) have a problem.

If you're just printing letters on plain paper and the only graphic is a colour logo then you probably won't have any problems.

Yes, the print server plugs into the printer's port. If you have a printer with a parallel port, then buy a print server that plugs into a parallel port. If you have a printer with a usb port, buy a print server that plugs into a usb port.

I've just used the same model I mentioned above, on an £18,000 printer - and it works perfectly. Client is extremely satisfied. They're a common item in professionally run businesses around the world and very reliable.

Here's an illustration - note the print server (circled) plugs into the back of the printer.
