Formatting a 1Gb memory card
All
I'm trying to format a 1Gb memory card and I get a message telling me the disc is write-protected; which it isn't.
What's to do?
Cheers

Not sure mate. When I bought it new it probably asked me if I wanted to do a format so I expect I would have accepted the default settings.
I've got TomTom loaded on it (about 975Mb worth). I'm trying to install the latest speed camera database and it won' let me. i thought a format might sort it out but it won't let me do that either.

If you are using a card reader to format the card using a pc, check that the little white sliding type switch on the memory card adapter hasn't slid down into the locked position. I did this accidently whilst doing mine.

if i recall, put it in the reader, and let the pc see it as a virtual drive.
then if you go into the windows device manager, you should see it as a drive, if i recall you can format it from there,

or use FDISK from the command prompt to remove and re-set up the partition... make sure you only remove the partition from the memory card and not your hard disk though or you could be in for a world of trouble

Panasonic AVC Networks Company - Product Support Information
I bought a headunit that would only read SD cards in a FAT16 format, which can't be done in Windows XP. I download the formatting program above and it worked straight away!
I'm using SanDisk cards, so don't let the Panasonic application put you off!
