Almost worth buying at that price as a spare upstairs.

How are the modchips these days? Do I still have to solder a cable to the nasty D0 thing?

I fitted an Xapt3r & 2.6 Xecuter chip earlier this week with no problems, no soldering required....

I have to say the process of modding is not one to be undertaken lightly, I consider myself to be IT literate but it was not easy, in fact I gave up for months and only bothered to do it after someone actually posted some usefull info on how to get the dashboard working....
Good luck! Im not even sure I can remember what I did now. lol. Flashing with the new BIOS i found hardest

Thanks to both of you. I have done it about 3 years ago, it was just painful. Remember having to strip and clean the underside of the motherboard to get a clean solder connection. And then downloading the dashboard (before Bit Torrent was so popular) was painful.

Looking at the link above, I can just attach it and be done these days and I have all the BIOS's so I should go and buy one.

L!ve is £40 on both as you can use it on both, try doing it through the dashboard, or check eBay, you mind it a bit cheaper. I believe Play.com and most other internet shops are £35

Correct, you can only use it on one console at a time [don't mean to state the obvious], just use the account recovery option, you'll probably get a bit peeved off if you keep switching it though, but effort over £40 No brainer really

Aswell as the obvious ( ie: Playing backups ) you can upgrade the HDD, run homebrew apps, use it as a full media centre, download/view movie & game trailers..

Chipping an Xbox (hardware route) isn't that hard.

1. Undo the 6 screws on the back, remove hard drive and DVD drive.

2. Place Xapter over the pin holes, screw Xapter down to ensure snug fit and connect Xecuter chip.

3. Reconnect Xbox DVD + HD and NETWORK cable, and Power-Up

4. Enter http://<IP ADDRESS OF XBOX GIVEN ON BOOTUP and then upload the X3.3294 bios you've downloaded "from the usual places" from your PC

5. Your machine is now chipped, just need to install the apps on your drive, by burning the Slayers 2.7 ISO ("from the usual places") onto DVD and booting your Xbox with it.

Job done.

Assuming you've already downloaded the BIOS + Slayers CD you can be chipped in 15 minutes.
