Does a Compaq Presario SR1629 . . . . .
. . . . . have network/ethernet capabilities built in?

Looking at this, it indicates the following:
RJ45 Lan Port x 1
plus
Networking
Networking Type Integrated 10/100 Network Card
Data Link Protocol Ethernet • Fast Ethernet
So I'd say it does indeed have built in ethernet.
