Default Motherboard Chipsets?

Im looking at upgrading my PC to a Intel Dual Core 2 Processor so I have been looking at the different motherboards to run it on...

From looking on Tomshardware.co.uk they seem to rate the MSI 975X Platinum Power Up Edition and the MSI P965 Platinum. Now one has a Intel 975x chipset and the other has a P965 chipset...... is the P965 chipset the later model??

From what I gather the 975 chipset is a little older but runs 2x PCI express slots for dual graphic card setups etc.

Now which one would be the better one to go for? I'm not going to be looking at going the SLI route, so no need for the 2x PCI E slots.

Are there any other differences with these chipsets? What motherboards do you all run?

Any recommendations would be appreciated

Thanks

Is the P965 the latest/later chipset then? Plenty of info there but still cant work out which is the later/better one to go for?

As i'm buying a new motherboard I would just like to get the latest technology which is currently about

If your not looking at an SLi board then the MSI is a nice board to have, though also look at the Intel 975x (xbx?) board which is one of the top ones or an ASUS P5W board which are also top of the range and made to accommodate the quad core intel processors (running 2.66ghz so 10.64ghz).
Also note that you want to look at M/B's that will run the 1333mhz fsb which will be coming in shortly, it will save you some cash in the future if your looking to go quad core (2nd generation quad core running 45nm should be out mid 07 as the current one still runs 65nm).

Thanks for the info there guys.

It will be some time yet before I look at getting a quad core processor as no doubt they will be ££££'s.

So I guess im better off going for a 975x based bored (V2.0 model which properly supports the Core 2 Duo Processors)?
