I don't think it's the software that determins the speed of the conversion, it's the processor power of the computer.
On my old 1.4 Ghz it took all day (5 or 6 hours) to convert, on my new computer, dual core processor, it takes about 40-60 minutes to convert a 90 minute film.

i think it does, if software has code for dual core then its going to perform faster than software not enabled for dual core.
Been trying all the big name ones but havent been happy with any of them, a frame pause every so often

What are you converting to watch?
If I were you I'd buy a DVD player that plays DivX AVI. Doing so mens no need to convert (saves a lot of time and fuss). Also means you could burn a lot more to one DVD. Say for example you had some old TV shows you'd downloaded @ 350mb each. That's 12 shows per DVD. converted you'll get about 4 on.

For example all the Lost captures from series 2 suffered from this. The current series seems much better, and theres almost no stutter on panning.
