Simple RAM question.
Hi,
I want to upgrade my memory and need SDRAM 168 pin DIMM memory. However there is this stuff about PC133 and PC100. On Belarc advisor it says bus speed is 100 megahertz. Does that mean i need PC100 memory.
3 yr old Compaq Presario win xp wanting to upgrade from 256 to 512 RAM by adding a 256.
thanks
Paul.

as posted 133 will work backwards to 100.... what have you got as for 256??..is it a single stck of 256 or two 128 sticks... make sure your motherboard can handle the extra ram or you might need a bios update if one is available.

The only thing I would say about buying ram is its worth getting branded ram, it will cost you a little bit more then no branded but it’s well worth it.
If you are going to get two sticks of ram keep them the same and the same brand and you should be fine, some computers don’t like mix and match.
Good luck
Daniel.

I would STRONGLY recommend branded RAM. Crucial are my preferred choice but Kingston etc all good.
I've used cheap ram in the past - some was okay, some was terrible. IMO (as an experienced system builder - for a living) - I would spend a little more and buy good quality branded.
